I'm showing my ignore here but.... I installed that rpm with "rpm -iv mc-4.6.1a-0.15.src.rpm" but I can't find where it installed! (so I can't compile it)...

Yes, add --without-x to the configure parameters in the spec file and recompile your src.rpm. Then it should work fine. BTW. the latest devel mc in Fedora Core is compiled with this option already, so you can download it directly from: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/development/SRPMS/mc -4.6.1a-0.15.src.rpm if you don't want to touch the spec file.
