These queries seem to be describing something other than the mc
which I've known for years ?!

When I want to 'see the current-dir-size' I do:
<numPad+> <enter>
 and I see eg:
"2,977,685 bytes in 74 files"

Be carefull to 'deselect' them after this:<-Numpad> <enter>

If for some strange reason I wanted this shown as
<integer>.<decimalFraction> of Mb,
perhaps I'd 'apropos calculate' to find a utility that calculates
or just try to write a minimal bash-script, which I'd put in my
$PATH and name mbdir or even add the actions to the
<F2 menu>.

What the hell is a "tab" in the given context ?!

Re. losing the previously selected dir. when we branch-off to
do some sub-task, I just open another mc.
Since this is conceptually like sub-routineing, I suppose it would
be nice if we could just 'stack the dirs and pop them back'.
Which perhaps mc can already do.
It does so much which I'm only slowly discovering after years
of use.

Thanks for mc
& thanks for Nortons Commander for establishing the original
 principles.
