mc doesn't edit files on remote file systems - e.g. ssh vfs. It allows browsing, allows editing, allows saving file after editing. But it doesn't actually save file. After refreshing (Control+R) I see previous file version.
I use mcedit as mc editor mc --version GNU Midnight Commander 4.8.18 Built with GLib 2.50.1 Using the S-Lang library with terminfo database With builtin Editor With subshell support as default With support for background operations With mouse support on xterm and Linux console With support for X11 events With internationalization support With multiple codepages support Virtual File Systems: cpiofs, tarfs, sfs, extfs, ext2undelfs, ftpfs, sftpfs, fish Data types: char: 8; int: 32; long: 64; void *: 64; size_t: 64; off_t: 64; $ uname -a Linux pm-asus-note 4.10.0-26-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 27 09:30:12 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux -- С уважением, Павел +7-903-258-5544 skype://pavel.moukhataev
