1. Field Study Internship Program is NOW accepting SPRING 2006
APPLICATIONS!!!

Are you interested in shadowing a physician? The Field Study
Internship (FSI) Program is now accepting applications for the Spring
semester. This program allows interns to enter the health care
setting and experience the day-to-day workings of the medical
profession. Past physicians with the program have had various
specialties, including cardiology, pediatrics, and surgery. Through
the course of the semester, interns shadow one Bay Area physician for
6-8 hours/week and attend a weekly 2-hour discussion section. During
these small discussion sections, interns have an opportunity to share
their shadowing experiences and discuss pertinent issues facing the
medical field. Interns receive 2 units P/NP for the semester.

For applications and more information, please go to the Health and
Medical Apprenticeship Program (HMAP) website at
http://hmap.berkeley.edu. Applications will be due NO LATER than
10:00 AM on October 24, 2005 outside of 309 Eshleman . No late
applications will be accepted. Successful completion of IDS 130 is a
prerequisite for the program. In addition, applicants must request a
letter of recommendation from their IDS 130 TA. If you have any
questions, please contact Caroline Nguyen at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

5. Volunteer Opportunity in Department of Psychiatry, UCSF

My name is Jun Hoshino from Dr. Ben Cheyette Laboratory, Department
of Psychiatry, UCSF.
I am postdoctoral scholar and need a student volunteer for my work.

I study signaling cascade called Wnt signaling that is involved in
our body plan (our development) and cancer. Actually I research
abnormal phenotype in gene targeted mice. Therefore I need help from
the volunteer who is interested in those study. I expect the
volunteer to handle mice, and to do the mouse genotype using tech
called PCR. And then they can learn histological study if they want.
I am well trained postdoctoral scholar fromUniversity of Tokyo. So
they could learn a lot from me except for English.

Deadline for applying: Nov 4th.
