*Title :** UNIX System Engineer * *Duration :6 + Months* *Location : Sunnyvale, CA * *Job Class: Unix Systems Admin 3* *Job Description: * · As a Unix Systems Administrator you will work as part of a highly technical team of professionals who support the day-to-day management and operations of NetApp's Unix Systems. · To be successful you will need a strong technical orientation; be a creative problem solver; be motivated to advance in the field; and work well in a team-oriented environment. · You will have the opportunity in this entry-level position to build your technical and team participation skills while contributing positively to department goals and objectives. * Essential Functions:* The Unix systems Administrator 1 is an entry level position working on the Unix Administration team providing 24x7 operational support for Unix based servers in the Corporate Datacenters including general administration and management. Your specific areas of responsibilities include: Have in depth understanding in Solaris Global Zone and Linux is a must. Be able to troubleshoot performance issues and be able to make recommendations based on the existing standard are required. General Description The Senior Unix and Virtualization Engineering position will be based out of Sunnyvale, CA location. The primary role is to develop and maintain NetApp’s Unix standards, develop automation for implementation of the standards, engineer virtualization technologies with Solaris and Linux, document standards and new technologies, and provide tiered support to operations and the delivery teams. Position requires expert level skills related to the engineering and architecture of Solaris, Linux, server platforms, and data centers. The qualified candidate should have a proven track record of engineering Unix based solutions in large data centers, build a disaster recovery plan for different platforms/OS, creating and documenting standards for systems in the data center, testing and documenting new features or technologies, and providing tiered support. The essential functions include but are not limited to: - Cost benefit analysis of server solutions as they apply to business objectives - Performance analysis of protocols, server platforms, and architectures - Develop and automate procedures to improve efficiencies - Evaluation of new technologies - Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends and nights when necessary. - Ability to travel internationally <10% of the time work experience requirements Candidate must have extensive experience in Server and Unix implementation, and management - 7+ years design and deployment experience with Unix systems in data centers - Expert knowledge of the following technologies - Solaris - Linux - Server platforms - Unix Virtualization (Solaris Containers, VMWare, Xen) - Automation of system builds (Jumpstart, Kickstart) - Excellent system level understanding of UNIX system. Kernel and device driver knowledge is a plus - Substantial experience in administering and performance-tuning Linux and Solaris - In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in DNS, NFS, LDAP, TCP/IP - Hands-on experience in NetApp storage for NAS and SAN - Strong knowledge in Shell, Perl, and C++ programming - Proven knowledge in system/application monitoring tools and technology - Strong oral and written communications skills - Ability to communicate technical proposals to supervisors and management - Fluent with MS suite of tools including MS Visio - Strong project management skills - Knowledge of database and major applications (Oracle, Siebel, SAP) is a plus - Solaris or RedHat certification is plus - ITIL Certification is a plus - Interaction: - This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties. - Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently. - The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert. - To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and influencing others.
