Title: Senior DB2 DBA posted on 2014-10-08 13:31:02 Job Description: *Position: Senior DB2 DBA* *Location: Malta, NY* *Duration: 12+ Months* *Rate: ALAP DOE* Job Requirements: *Specific Responsibilities Include:* - Lead projects and define scope of activities related to the deployment of new IT systems. - Provide project management and work with the PMO to deliver database application projects on time and within budget. - Perform proactive analysis of database infrastructure capacity and performance. - Develop and document IT processes and policies. - Ability to work with limited supervision. - Review and determine required updates to software applications, releases and patches. - Perform proactive analysis of infrastructure capacity and performance. - Implement and manage disaster recovery plans. - Develop process automation through scripting or programming. - Evaluate new technologies to improve service reliability, performance, and efficiency. - Work collaboratively with other staff. - Ensure proper implementation of large-scale RDBMS environments - Independently manages projects related to the implementation of new database applications - Analyzes and proposes alternative approaches for systems and data development solutions - Ensures maximum uptime and performance of large-scale RDBMS environments and related applications - Determines specifications, input/output processes, and data management components for hardware and software compatibility - Ensures the on-going operability of systems and data solutions in a production environment and responds/resolves production malfunctions - Monitors and refines processes, procedures, and systems to optimize effectiveness and/or integrity and recommends and/or implements improvements - Creates documentation for systems, database and data model design - Installs, maintains and upgrades the enterprise's production databases - Ensures reliable backup and recovery procedures - Provides technical expertise in the use of database technology - Accountable for the overall performance of the enterprise's database environment - Monitors and analyzes performance metrics and allocates database resources to achieve optimum database performance - Works on multiple projects as a project leader, or a project advisor - Supports multiple servers and multiple databases of medium to high complexity (complexity defined by database size, technology used, and system feeds and interfaces) with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of the data - Provides technical coaching to business functions and lower level database administrators on more complex issues - Fail-over testing, implementing database patches and upgrades, routine DBA activities *Required Qualifications:* - *Must have extensive, demonstrable experience with design and operation of IBM DB2.* - *Advanced DB2 LUW database administration experience using DB2 LUW v9.7 environments* - *Advanced to expert level experience SQL tuning* - *Experience with multiple replication products, HACMP* - *Strong Unix skills across UNIX system* - *Strong troubleshooting skills and be able to debug most DB2 LUW problems* - Program Management abilities and experience with project management software such as MS Project. - Effective verbal and written communications skills. - Experience in mission-critical operations, ideally within a 24x7 large scale distributed and clustered environment. - Solid understanding of best practices and ability to implement them. - Familiarity in multi-site or global database design and implementation - Shell scripting experience in Unix and Linux environments - Familiarity with ETL tools - Excellent written and verbal communication skills EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in CS or related field plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
