Can you believe MCN 2010 in Austin is coming up soon?

It is, and that means it's time to start thinking about your Silent
Auction donations.

The Museum Computer Network's first Unsilent Auction will feature a
soundtrack selected by two MCN officers and stealth musicians named Rob.
Our bidding festivities will take place to the accompaniment of jazz
recordings, and a few other surprises, hand-picked for your listening
pleasure by these fellow MCN members. Join us for a spell of musically
augmented R&R, a cool beverage, and some networking after a long day of
sessions. Mus-what Computer Network? Museum, Music, you decide....

Once again our auction benefits the Scholarship Program, helping museum
professionals attend our conference by providing registration and funds
towards expenses. Like last year, this year there were many more
deserving applicants than there was funding. We would like to increase
their numbers next year, but we can only do it with your help.

Help us meet this year's goal of $1500!

Items of any sort--new or old, seriously useful or cheerfully unrelated
to museum work--that may be attractive to bidders (and carried by
airline passengers) are encouraged. Exhibition catalogues and other
institutional publications are always popular. Equally great and easy to
carry are museum bags, clothing, and other souvenirs. Donations need not
be tangible things--some popular lots in recent years have consisted of
free services or special half-price registration for professional
events.

Don't be shy, all you artists and crafters out there! Bring us your
photography, paintings, prints, knitting, embroidery, toothpick art or
anything else that will fit into a suitcase. It's nearly Halloween, so
let that inspire you!

Prizes will be awarded for the item that raises the most money and for

the most unusual item. Show off your creativity and help us raise some
bucks!

We need you to make this an event a success!

Auction donations are tax deductible and 100% of all proceeds benefit
next year's scholarship recipients.

Auction items will be accepted at the Conference Registration Desk on
Wednesday, and Thursday until noon. You may bid on items throughout the
day Thursday, until tables in the Exhibit Hall close at 5:30.

You never know what will be offered, so be sure to get to the Exhibit
Hall during breaks Thursday to place your bids. Items will be added
throughout the morning on Thursday and the bidding will end during
Thursday evening's reception. Be sure to arrive at 5:00 to see how your
items are doing and to outbid the competition. Tables will close
starting at 5:30 pm. Winners may take items along or pick them up at the
Conference Registration desk on Friday.

I also need a few stalwart volunteers to help on Thursday. If
interested, please email me off-list at mmisunas[at]sfmoma.org.
