FYI -- For all those who work with image licenses, information about
new developments by a coalition of photographers' associations....

A new initiative called PLUS (Picture Licensing Universal System) is
creating standards for picture rights and licensing terminology, and
a universal structure for media types and categories to be used in
image licensing interfaces. The PLUS consortium is also
experimenting with the development of automated licensing, and, most
interesting for museums, is developing an "artist (read:
photographer) and licensor registry" to assist users in locating
photographers and their associated works. Some of these tools are
already available to try out on their web site
(http://www.useplus.com/home.asp).

Thanks to Maria Pallante (now at the US Copyright Office) for
bringing this to my attention...
