Dear MCN list, I have recently begun working as Head Librarian at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas. As part of my new job I have been asked to co-chair our Collections Management System/Digitization Committee. Our museum does not currently have a modern Collections Management System and our committee is charged with implementing one. Our goal is to have a Request for Proposals ready to be sent out to potential vendors by the fall of this year. We have identified the major vendors and are comfortable with this timetable. However, it would be very useful to see any RFPs written in the past five or so years from similarly scaled museums. For those unfamiliar with our museum, we are a small-to-mid-sized institution with a very deep collection in a fairly narrow collecting scope. So, if anyone has a relatively recent RFP they would be willing to share, it would be most appreciated and would not go beyond our committee.
