Please let me know if you'd be interested in participating in the following session which I've proposed for the 2005 Boston conference:

The Other Side of the Coin: Not All Assets Are Created Equal

While much time and energy is spent debating how to preserve digital assets for the long term, not much has been spent on discussing the decisions of when not to preserve these assets. Yet not all assets need to be kept for the long haul. For example, a teaching collection of art history images requires regular and judicious weeding. Do all images of a press conference need to be preserved for time immemorial? Do black and white images long superceded by better color images need to be preserved? This session will explore these ideas and questions, from the viewpoint of an academic slide collection and two or three museum collections.
