GENERAL MANAGER OF THE WEBSITE

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks a 
General Manager for its website which is a key component of the Museum and has 
about 15 million visitors and 40 thousand pages.   This position is responsible 
for leading and inspiring a creative, dynamic staff, and working 
collaboratively with a number of departments.  The Museum is rethinking the 
site's underlying tools and technology and seeks an experienced imaginative 
manager skilled in web initiatives and strategic planning to ensure that the 
site has the necessary features and functionality to meet the needs of its 
users and the Museum's objectives. 

This position's primary responsibilities include preparing and overseeing 
implementation of a three-year strategic plan for the website; set priorities 
of current and future web projects and monitor progress; actively engage with 
curatorial, educational and other content-providing departments to ascertain 
their needs and expectations of the website; coordinate and manage the 
relationship with IS&T department; ensure that standards and procedures are in 
place to support the website's development; prepare fundraising materials as 
required; negotiate and oversee contracts with third-party vendors, developers 
etc; prepare and manage the budget and produce revenue and expense analyses. 

Successful candidates will have 5 or more years experience managing a website; 
experience with content management and web publishing tools; understanding of 
internet technologies, usability, information architecture, web design and web 
metrics; ability to think strategically; good presentation skills; experience 
managing staff of 8-10 people and excellent leadership skills; creativity and 
desire to work in a creative environment; have project management experience 
and be highly organized.  The person should have a Bachelor's degree or 
equivalent and preferably knowledge or interest in art history.
