You can use the To address to filter or direct to folders instead of the subject - works for me.

I don't find it at all offensive. However, I do wish that messages coming from the MCN-L "listserv"*  would be prefixed with the letters [MCN-L], for example:
[MCN-L] Copyright newsletter
In this way, people could set filters to read (or not read) the messages, or to direct them into folders for reading and archiving.
It's almost become a standard for "listservs" to handle messages this way.
 
* The word "listserv" is proprietary, I believe, which is why I put it in quotes.
