Database Manager:

The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and 
publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of 
New Orleans and the Gulf South region. THNOC is a collection of over 35,000 
library items, more than two miles of documents and manuscripts, and over 
350,000 photographs, prints, drawings, paintings, and other artifacts. The 
Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of database manager.

The database manager supports and maintains THNOC's collection information 
system(s), including advising departments on methodology for the application of 
external cataloging standards within the system and creating and maintaining 
data entry and procedure manuals incorporating rules found in CDWA, DACS, CCO, 
OCLC Bibliographic Formats, AACR2 and RDA.  This position is responsible for 
documenting and maintaining the centralized rules and standards for data entry 
and cataloging vocabulary, performing quality control on all databases, and 
developing and refining report specifications for such.  The database manager 
also assists in the development, management, and support of other databases and 
automation projects at THNOC and is a key liaison between the IT/Systems 
Department and other departments.



The ideal candidate must have a minimum of three years of experience in museum 
registration, cataloging, or database management and development and a master's 
degree in Library and Information Science, Archives or Records Management.  The 
successful candidate shall demonstrate knowledge in database concepts and 
automated authority controls and standards such as AACR2, CDWA, CCO, DACS, EAD, 
ISAD(G), MARC, OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, RDA, AAT, Revised 
Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging, LCSH, ULAN, TGN, and TGMII.  The database 
manager must possess exceptional communication, organizational, and attention 
to details skills, an ability to identify and resolve issues, flexibility to an 
evolving work environment, an ability to meet concurrent deadlines, a 
proficiency in Microsoft Office, and an ability to work under minimal 
supervision.  Knowledge of archives and historical records administration and 
knowledge of MINT, collections management systems or MINISIS Inc. software 
products is preferred.



This is a full-time position Monday-Friday.  The Collection offers a
