The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum in New York City (Queens) is seeking an Archivist and a Project Archivist.
Reporting to the Senior Curator, the Archivist maintains the daily operations, procedures, and organization of the Museum’s collection of archival materials including the extant files of Isamu Noguchi. These materials include correspondence; project files; writings and speeches; Museum, gallery, and exhibition files; business papers; travel ephemera; photographs; transparencies; slides; negatives; and architectural drawings and plans. The Archivist oversees and maintains the Museum’s Open Access database, which current includes approximately 10,000 digitized images from the Museum’s Photography Archive, and which will eventually become the repository for the digital files and metadata for the Museum’s complete archives. This position coordinates access to archival materials and images for Museum departments and projects, exhibitions, publications, and in response to any other internal photographic requests. Additionally, the Archivist facilitates research by scholars and other seeking access to the materials on a case-by-case basis. The Archivist handles all incoming photo research requests and coordinates rights and reproductions in tandem with an external copyright agency, Artists Rights Society (ARS). The Project Archivist is a three-year, full-time contract position. Reporting to the Museum’s Senior Curator and Archivist, the Project Archivist will oversee the creation of the Museum’s Digital Archives Resource Center, which will provide online open access to the Museum’s primary and select secondary source materials.
