I use a "Quick Tap" from JK Audio (see http://www.jkaudio.com/telecomapp.htm) that taps into the handset line and provides line out to the recorder. Audio quality is quite good. The one problem I have when using my Sony portable for recording is that it inserts a track mark everytime the conversation pauses. You can easily end up with 50 tracks after a conversation. I think a Sharp might work better since you can turn off its synchro-start/track marking, but I haven't tried it.
