And, if the new LP2 mode records 128kbps MP3 files without apparent
degradation I think MD will remain pretty compelling: 2h40m of stereo
on a carrier 1/4 the size of a CD, with editing and field recording
capabilities. (And no, I don't know anything new about this device,
just extrapolating from Video Direct's mis-posting of a month ago.)

This is a dream machine; totally feasible from a technical standpoint,
totally impossible from an Entertainment Industry standpoint. Bummer!
