I'm fairly sure the Sony unit is identical to the Xitel one, in fact
the Sony unit even says "XITEL" on the bottom. As for software,
Windows 2000 (and Windows 98?) already have all the drivers necessary,
so plugging in the unit causes it to be enabled, without installing
any new software. The XITEL unit comes with a CD containing the
MusicMatch software for encoding and decoding MP3s. The MusicMatch
software has no special provisions for the USB adapter though.

One of your two units is out of adjustment.
