MD: Running out of steamIf you are going to disk more i.e., if you hard =
drive is thrashing a lot more than it use - you need more RAM. Its =
tharshing because the OS/APPS can't find the data its needs in fast RAM =
and has to go out to disk to find it.
WIN98, for that matter WIN95 has very poor memory management. If you =
look under the virtual memory option in the control panel -> system you =
will see that by default you are letting Windows decide how much to =
expand into HD space when you run out of physical memory. Basically =
WIN is filling up those 32M of RAM and instead of clearing unused/least =
used data from RAM is going out to disc to get the data instead - very =
bad.
In short more RAM =3D better performance, however there is a cavet - =
in the case of WIN95/98 anything above 96M of RAM adds little to =
increase perfomance - but if you can afford it MAX it out. NT has a =
better memory management. LINUX is the way to go.
I would get more RAM before a new video card.
-Hope this helps.
