| My main concern ( apart from good sound), is ease
| of use for stealth-recording at concerts.

Then you do not want Sony. While the R55 one of the most unobtrusive
recorder on the market, Sony recorders all suffer from difficulty of use
when making live recordings. They are difficult to set the record level in
the first place. And they reset the record level to their default value
when switching discs. Additionally, the R55 has *very* short battery life
due to the NiMH power cell.

Sharp's slot-loading recorders, the 701/702 and the newer 722, are very
popular for live recording. Record level is easilly set, and they retain
the setting when switching discs. Slot-loading is easier, and can be done
with one hand inside a jacket pocket. And battery life is greater than the
R55 by several hours.
