MD: MDLP's LP-2 >= MP3?

My next MD unit will almost definitely be an MDLP unit. It seems that LP2
would be ideal for storing MP3s. However, is LP2 mode of a high enough
quality to hold well-recorded MP3s with the same level of sound that the MP3
has (within audible ranges, of course)?
