Niels asked,

| I've got a sony je520 deck. And when I want to record to a blank md, I
| get the error: 'Din unlock c71'. Could anyone tell me what's wrong?

Just as the back pages of the manual say, the 520 is looking for a digital
input signal but failing to find one, or finding one that it can't read.

As Bryan suggested, if you are trying to record an analog signal, switch the
input selector to `analog.' If you are trying to record digital input, make
sure that the end of the cable is emitting red light and then make sure that
it is inserted properly.

Are you by any chance trying to record from a portable CD player? Many
portable CD players that offer optical output will generate it only when a CD
is actually playing, or when they are plugged into the wall (rather than
operating on batteries), or both. So if you're trying to record from a
portable CD player and it is running on batteries, get its AC adaptor and
plug it into the wall. If you get that message before pressing PLAY on a
portable CD player, press PAUSE to get it into playing position and see if
the DIN UnLock message goes away on the 520; then press PLAY or PAUSE again
on the CD player.
