INTERNATIONAL 11.04.2006 Saturday - ISTANBUL 18:41 Austrian Billboards Display Roses, Sayings of Prophet Muhammad
Saturday, November 04, 2006 zaman.com Muslims living in Europe have launched a civil movement to eradicate the negative impressions about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. Billboards in Austria have been decorated with a saying or hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, The best of men is the one who is of the greatest use to people. Vienna Islam Federation (VIF) had the hadith placed on 185 rotating billboards in Vienna, Salzburg, Graz, Steiermarkt, Wels, Linz and St. Pölten. The billboard prepared in German and English reportedly cost 60,000. The hadiths, which will stay on billboard for two weeks, are written on a green background and on the left bottom corner there is rose as a symbol for unity and loyalty. VIF Director General Mehmet Turhan said they, the Muslims, wanted to introduce the Prophet Muhammad to the European community with his own sayings rather than letting a group of ignorant and hostile writers and cartoonists introduce him. They also aimed at consolidating the multi-cultural richness in Europe by making such positive contributions, Turhan said, adding that the initiative launched under the title of Social Solidarity Campaign 1 would continue periodically. Turhan noted that they hoped this civil initiative would be taken as a paradigm all over the world like the traditionalized Koran Feast programs and pointed out that they received positive responses from all Muslim congregations in the country and particularly received special thanks from Arabs, Bosnians, Macedonians, Bangladeshis, Austrians and Pakistanis. Turhan also said that the work was well-received and appreciated by Alfred Gusenbauer, the president of Austrias Social Democrat Party. --------------------------------- Get your email and see which of your friends are online - Right on the new Yahoo.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Ajaklah teman dan saudara anda bergabung ke milis Media Dakwah.
