U.S. opens DV Lottery to Indonesian citizens
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The United States Embassy in Jakarta announced Wednesday that Indonesians could
apply for U.S. immigrant visas under the 2009 Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery
scheme.

"The DV Lottery registration period is from Oct. 3 to Dec. 2, 2007, and
registration is free," the embassy said in a press release sent to The Jakarta
Post.

"The U.S. Embassy encourages Indonesians interested in immigrating to the
United States who meet the minimum requirements to apply," the release said.

Under the scheme, also known as the "green card lottery", people can apply for
one of 50,0000 immigration visas to live and work in the U.S.

Those wishing to enter the lottery can register online at
www.dvlottery.state.gov.

The embassy warned Indonesian citizens about companies and websites claiming to
be able to help in the process.

"Applicants should be aware that the website listed is the only valid place to
register for the DV Lottery and should be cautious about companies or websites
claiming they can help obtain a Diversity Visa," the embassy said.

Around 30,000 Indonesians applied for 2007 DV Lottery visas, 245 of whom were
selected.
