Older Millennials who remember when their demographic was simply known as "Gen
Y" have reason to rejoice entering the New Year, as nearly 2,400 MS-DOS games
released in the '80s and early '90s have been made available to play for free
online by the Internet Archive.

Among the newly-ported homeroom classics, users can now enjoy
franchise-launchers The Oregon Trail, Lemmings, Street Fighter, Prince of
Persia, Duke Nuke and Bust-A-Move as well as standalone classics Master of
Orion, Boulder Dash and Centurion.

"I really worked hard to have only fully-functioning programs up, or at least,
programs that gave viable, useful feedback," described programmer Jason Scott.
Scott ported to the games' code to the San Francisco-based Internet Archive to
make them playable in-browser without any downloads or plugins.

"Some of [the ports] will still fall over and die, and many of them might
be weird to play in a browser window, and of course you can't really save
things off for later, and that will limit things too. But on the whole, you
will experience some analogue of the MS-DOS program, in your browser,
instantly."

Not all titles uploaded by Scott are kid-friendly callbacks to childhood,
however. Some of the retro programs uploaded were obscure adult software
representing the early days of digital pornography.
