Electric cars shun AM radio
Southgate News

As an unintended consequence, two popular energy efficient cars from BMW and Tesla are dumping AM radio, due to the vehicles interfering with passenger reception on that band.

It seems that the rechargeable battery vehicles have an electric motor with a frequency converter that disrupts AM broadcasts, which can be prone to that kind of interference.

However all is not lost, with AM stations that are streamed on the Internet able to be heard via the net in cars.

Meantime a team of engineers, on the side of loyal listeners, is trying to
find a technical solution that may include cable shielding and insulating
the motor.
