DirecTV Sues Former Customer Service Agents Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Satellite television provider DirecTV Group Inc on Tuesday said it filed a lawsuit against 12 people, including 10 former customer service agents it believes engaged in a scheme to defraud DIRECTV.
The civil lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, alleges the individuals created subscription accounts with false data and fraudulently linked access cards to existing accounts so that others could get programing without authorization or proper payment, DirecTV said.
DirecTV said the lawsuit followed an internal investigation into a Pharr, Texas call center operated by a third-party vendor under contract to DIRECTV. The investigation determined no customer information was compromised by the call center employees allegedly involved in the scheme.
DirecTV said the lawsuit also claimed the defendants were buying DirecTV access cards to set up additional bogus accounts and shipping cards around Texas, as well as to New York, North Carolina and other locations around the country.
This is the fourth federal lawsuit involving allegations of fraud filed by DIRECTV in the past seven months.
