The service will be available in markets in Ohio and in San Antonio, where AT&T is based. To receive Homezone, AT&T customers will need to subscribe to the company's high-speed Internet service, which it offers jointly with Yahoo Inc., as well as EchoStar Communication Corp.'s Dish Network satellite service. Subscribers will pay $9.99 a month for Homezone, AT&T said, in addition to the costs of Dish Network service and high-speed Internet, both of which vary depending on the service package. The equipment needed for Homezone -- a set-top box that links to a broadband connection and contains tuners for the satellite and a hard drive for programming -- is made available to customers at no extra charge. An average customer who subscribes to popular Internet and basic satellite plans and orders a digital video recorder would pay roughly $60 a month for the entire package, according to AT&T. Homezone subscribers will be able to download off the Internet roughly 1,000 movies for prices ranging from $1.99 to $4.99 per film. They also will be able to use their TV sets to view pictures from their Yahoo photo account, access movie show times and reviews from Yahoo's online movie listings, and schedule and manage digital video recordings through an online connection on their computers. ================================================= George Antunes Voice (713) 743-3923 Associate Professor Fax (713) 743-3927 Political Science Internet: antunes at uh dot edu University of Houston Houston, TX 77204-3011 Reply with a "Thank you" if you liked this post. _____________________________ MEDIANEWS mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
