JCAHO has visited both of our hospitals this
year employing the new "Tracer" methodology. The only direct contact with
IT was with the Administration Surveyor in his HIM session. They asked the
usual questions about security, disaster planning, working
together etc. We used our development of Care Plans in NUR as an
example of a Quality initiative and that was well received. Since we are
in the process of eliminating paper charts they were very focused on our
clinical staff's ability to maneuver through NUR, Departmental and PCI and
quickly and efficiently find the information that supported whatever they were
tracing in each instance.

assist with what the surveyors needed? How did the new Data Tracer methods
work? Did they tour your departments? What questions did they ask
pertaining to MIS Department procedures? Security?
Confidentiality? Safety and bar-coding?
