Joe,
I use the price update monthly. Before I started using it, I had
Meditech create a custom that utilizes the packaging string to calculate
the cost field. That way we can have packaging breakdowns that are not
industry standard. Before this modification, the price calculated for
many injectables and most pediatric entries were not correct. It also
works well for the same item entered with two different dispensing forms
(example liquids that are set up for ML and a bottle). The NDC numbers
with a letter suffix work well. I run the update, then use a NPR
report/Excel to review the update before loading filing it into the drug
dictionary. The whole process takes about 20 minutes. The only problem
entries are a few items were cardinal has a zero cost. This could be for
items where the NDC number is no longer active or items that Cardinal
has set up for drop ship and they are not supplying a cost. Our
download report from Cardinal is set for the size actually purchased ie
Bottle of 100 tabs or Bottle of 480 ML. The Package string in the drug
file breaks the bottle down to the tab or ML cost. Again this package
string breakdown was a custom from Meditech which is working very well.
Of course it is critical to maintain accurate NDC numbers.

I would be happy to supply the custom specs or post the specs to the L
if there is interest. I also presented this at the International MUSE
meeting in Las Vegas and the complete presentation was posted to the
MUSE WEB library. It is in the Show & Tell Jam Session section, first
entry on page 2.

Hey Joe-
Instead of investing in that interface, have you thought about utilizing
a scripting tool such as Summit Healthcare or Automate Pro to "upload"
the acquisition prices? You can get an Excel spreadsheet from the
Cardinal website and run a script to load those - if you already have
the scripting tool then just think of the bucks you're saving!

Later.

We are Magic 5.4 SR3, does anyone utilize the Meditech Pharmacy Price
Update Interface? Cardinal is the pharmacy vendor we utilize. Any
positives or negatives that you have experienced with this interface?

Thanks,
