Hi Craig.

How is everything out in Bemidji? We did a site visit to North Country back
in Nov 2003 on the MPM product. Had a very informative and hospitable
visit. In regard to Budgets, we used Meditech's B&F module for three years,
but switched back to using spreadsheets (then uploading to Meditech GL) as
B&F was just too cumbersome. You stated that you had duplication with a lot
of keying. If you are "keying" the budget numbers into GL, then there, at
least, is an easier way which is to import the data via an ASCII file. I
sent a reply to the -L (which posted on 11/18/06 11:30 pm) with instructions
on how to do the import. I can send again if you didn't pick it up
previously.

In regard to other software, we had considered this option last year. A
consulting firm, on site at that time, gave us the names of two vendors that
they knew were being used at other sites also having Meditech.
Unfortunately, due to changes in upper management, we did not pursue that
option, nor did we ever investigate the products. Here are the two vendors,
though, that the consulting firm mentioned:

Healthcare Insights LLC www.hcillc.com
Kreg Information Systems www.kreg.com

In regard to the PP budget, when we were using Meditech's B&F module, we did
upload the payroll budget to PP. The value of having it in PP is to compare
actuals to budgeted (dollars and FTE) on the PP Labor Distribution report.
Once we switched back to spreadsheets, however, we discontinued the upload
to PP (because the payroll budget prepared via spreadseet was done at the GL
Account (Dept / EOC) level versus the Job Code level, which is necessary for
PP). Also, the ability to import a file is not available for PP budgets.
If you were to prepare your spreadsheet at the Job Code level, you would
have to import the data to ESS first, then to PP, to avoid manually keying.
Also, once the budget is in PP, it can be pulled over to GL via the Read
>From Application routine in GL.

Hope this helps some. Again, let me know if you need me to resend the
Import To GL instructions.

Thanks.
Jeannie

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Budgeting Processes and Software

Meditech GL Users

I've just completed my first year budgeting the operations for North Country
Health Services. I used the same process as my predecessor which I thought
to be quite confusing both for me and the department managers having to
submit budgets.

Our process is primarily using spreadsheets to prepare the budgetary
numbers. Once the numbers are rolled up, we enter all this information into
the GL Budget module. Obviously this creates duplication along with a lot
of keying.

I would like to know what budget processes/products others Meditech users
are using to create their budgets. I did use the GL budget module, but
primarily just to enter the numbers into. I see that there are a lot more
features within the GL budget module that I did not use. Also, I see the PP
has a budget module. Is anyone using that and if you are what types of
information need to be entered?

Another question I have is in regards to other budgeting software that links
with Meditech. If you are using other software please let me know the ease
with which it interfaces with Meditech and if possible the cost associated
with the software.

I appreciate any and all responses. I'm trying to figure out a better
budget process, so the more ideas I hear, hopefully I can take what others
are doing and meld it into our environment here and NCHS.

Thank you.
