We have a short stay unit that branches from PACU. Patient are transferred from PACU to the extended care unit If they are unable to be DC in SDC status within 4 hours, the doctor is contacted for medical necessity to either admit to IP or OBS or extend SDC a little longer. Pt that are admitted are transferred to an IP room. Pt that are admitted as OBS stay on the unit and are DC prior to 23hr.
The unit using the ORM module for all SDC patients and IP documentation for all OBS patients. ( which means they are versed in both modules) No charges for SDC patients ( incorporated in charge of procedure) except for supplies and medication. OBS patients get OBS charges, supplies and medications Patricia S.
