We scripted the nurses to explain to the patient that medications and
their ID bands were now being scanned as a patient safety measure. We
did not print pamphlets or distribute additional information to
patients. I know some hospitals take out adds in local papers before or
after implementing BMV to inform the public.
Thanks,
Dawn

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] GOING LIVE WITH BMV
Good Morning Everyone,
I have a question for those who have already gone live
with BMV:
How did you notify your patients that the medication
process was changed? Did you just have the nurses explain when they
administered a medication, or did you also have a letter or pamphlet
given to patients and family explaining the procedure and what they
could expect?
I feel that all nurses should verbally explain, but
written information should also be available for patient, family and
visitors to read at their leisure.
Thanks for the imput
