Greetings,
I saw you mentioned scripting in using BWS (Boston WorkStation). The
DataStation feature supports fixed length files (among lots of other file
types). Anyhow the fixed length parser has a "records are X" characters long
feature. You can then also mark off the lengths of "component" fields within
the record.
If you want, email either me, or our support team directly and we can help
you out here - I see no need to create intermediate files here (and if
that's what you want, the DataStation can help here was well) - let me know.
Regards,
Thom

David: You might try using Microsoft Access. I have been successful in
parsing large amounts of data, however, I admit not as long as the data
lines you are referencing. Put your file into a *.txt name and then
open in Access. It will allow you to parse as you do in excel. Hope
this works for you.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Sort of kind of off topic - parsing extremely
longlines

I am working with a .sdf file whose lines are each 22,686 characters
(bytes) long. I need to parse out about 150 individual pieces of data
from each line but I am having trouble finding ANY program that can read
a line that long. Ultimately I plan to script the extracted data into
meditech using BWS. But first I have to parse these 100 mile long lines
of data.

Does anyone have experience parsing info out of a line this long? If
so, how??!! When I import a line into excel, it puts the whole 23K
line into cell A1, which of course does me no good.

Any ideas...?

TIA.
