for bmv and most of the hospital , we use the patient account number .
This also works for our glucometers on the floors.
I believe for ER patients, they have additional barcode that has the
patient med rec and the account number in one field. The scanners that
read
these barcodes are programmed to read the last 10 characters of the
barcode which is the account number. This was done because they
have special software they use for tracking patients, although I dont
recall the name of it .
hope this helps.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Magic 5.5, barcodes on patient armbands
Wondering what other facilities are using for the main barcode
number on the patient wristbands for scanning by numerous hospital
departments-patient account number or medical record number? Thanks for
the information, Joyce.
