This is what I use:

@.today is the end date
NURERIVE1 is the end time
NURERDT1 is the start date
NURERIVT1 is the start time
NURERIVC1 is the total elapsed time
Formula is %Z.elapsed.time(end.date,end.time,begin.date,begin.time,"HH.MM"
Returns difference between start and end times in hh.mm format
Additional formats: "hh hours", "hh/mm", "hh.hh Hours", "hh Hrs mm Mins"
