I noticed the the expand flags too, but from some basic functional testing, I wasn't sure they were needed. I wasn't sure what the background of the expand flags were - eg maybe they weren't necessary in the first place. So I figured it'd make sense to remove them in the hopes they aren't needed, and we can re-add them if/when people report problems.
