I received about 50/50 responses from people stating they also have problems
reading documents versus those that don't. Some of the best responses I
received I pasted below. Thanks to those that responded.

It is due to the way the document was created. (ie. Word, Wordperfect, RTF,
MIME or HTML) You would not be able to read it if you don't have software or
the version that it was created. New versions of software can read older
versions but not the reverse. Let the sender know and have them send the
document in a different format.

One suggestion. When people send attachments, they should name the file so
that it has a 3 letter extension that designates the type of document or
file it is (i.e. CAFR.XLS for Excel spreadsheet, CAFR.DOC for Word document,
CAFR.PPT for Powerpoint presentation file, etc.)
If that isn't done, many e-mail programs don't recognize the file type and
the recipient must first save it to the hard disk and then open it vs. just
clicking on the attached file.
