Here's a brief update on GASB 34 "doings:"

o The "Elected Officials Guide" from the GFOA is now available for purchase, and
order forms can be downloaded from the GFOA web site (www.gfoa.org). Like previous
publications in GFOA's popular "Elected Official's Series", this newest addition (in
the GFOA's words) ".... offers simple, jargon-free explanations in an
easy-to-understand, question-and-answer format."

At 78 pages, this might be a little longer than most Council members will want to
read, but it's a starting point. And my guess is that it will be an excellent
starting point for many of us "Finance professionals." Individual copies start at $10
for GFOA members ($15 for non-members).

In the nest few months, look for more "awareness" materials from the CSMFO (for free)
that you can use in educating your elected officials and senior managers about GASB 34
- and why you'll need extra resources to implement it.

o Recently, a question was raised about when we have to start implementing this.
Using the State Controller's reports, Dave Bass (City of Lake Forest) has done an
excellent job of summarizing this for virtually every city in California in the
attached spreadsheet.

Hope this is helpful.
