City of San Marcos top and mid-level management has just been informed that
due to pressure from the press, the City Council has directed the City
Manager to release the specific salaries of top and mid-level management.
The City had released salary ranges to the press but the press wasn't happy
and wanted specific salaries.
* Has your agency ever been asked to release specific salary
information?
Yes, but to the Council at the request of the public. Also, our budget specifically
discloses all full-time employees' salaries (excluding certain monetary benefits).
So, the position with only one budgeted full-time employee, anyone would know who and
how much that person makes in a year.
* Has your agency released this level of detail pertaining to
salaries?
Yes.
* Does your agency believe the release of the information with this
level of detail violates the privacy rights of those involved?
No.
