There was recently a question regarding uniforms for Reserve Officers. I have questions regarding if your agency pays Reserve Officers a wage or if they are volunteers. All of our Reserve Officers are treated as hourly employees. We have three different rates of pay for them. 1. Minimum wage for when they are working what they previously volunteered for. 2. Special event duties that are reimbursed by the entity holding the event. 3. Amphitheatre duty. The City of Mountain View has an amphitheatre and this is also reimbursed by the operator of the amphitheatre. We are hearing complaints from our Police Department that it is difficult to hire and retain Reserve Officers. The rates for Reserve Officers use to be tied to the first step Police Officer rates. This tie was broken when we converted employee paid PERS to salary. They are interested in raising all wages for Reserve Officers and possibly going to a five step rate, similar to other permanent employees. Please take a couple of minutes and answer the following questions: 1. Do you pay your Reserve Officers? 2. At what rate? 3. Special rates for events that are reimbursed? 4. Are they treated as hourly employees? 5. Is your rate tied to Police Officer rates? 6. Are you having difficulty in hiring and retaining Reserve Officers? 7. Any other comments you would like to add? Thanks for your response, I will share with the group. Patty Kong Assistant Finance and Administrative Services Director City of Mountain View [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
