Wayne,
It sounds from your description that you're half shafts have CV joints and
not universal joints as shown in your manual. The boots aren't that
difficult to replace and most trany & driveline places stock them. The
downside is if grease is spewing out you may have more of a problem than
just a split boot as the boot is designed to keep water and road grime out
rather than grease in. CV's are serviceable usually only by a specialist as
the tools required to do the job properly are a necessity.
