If main camshaft mounting supports are disconnected from the head, do you
have to renew the whole head assembly? One of my mates just offered me an
L16 head in good condition, but I heard that you can never get the mounts to
line up properly ever again once they are taken off.....is this true? I
 bloody hope not!! Thanks >>

Not true as I have done this many times. Install #1 and #3 cam towers then
lube up the cams same journals and install. Rotating the cam as your
torqueing down the bolts. You''l find it binds when your tightening bolts. I
use a plastic hammer to tap the towers which ever way to free up the bind.
When the cam rotates freely after torqueing, torque everything to spec and
check rotation again. If the cam rotates freely then install #4 tower and set
rotation freely then #2 tower and set rotation and when everything is torqued
up the cam should rotate freely, any binding and you chould go back to the
last one you did, This is why I do it one cam tower at a time. Of course
everyone has there own way of doing it and as long as it rotates freely when
done it really dosen't matter how you do it.
