hello people, I have a problem deciding which way to put my spindle into the
L16 timing case. I am about to put the engine in, and the last thing to do
is to put the oil pump on, which obviously can't be done without putting the
spindle in first. The head is on the block already, and the sump is also
attatched, so how do I know when it's at TDC? I know that the larger lobe
on the drive spindle is supposed to point toward the pasanger at TDC, but
without a crank pully (harmonic balancer or whatever you like to call it) or
a little plate showing the degrees, how do I know where this TDC is? Are
the L18 and L16 crank wheels exactly the same (interchangable?) and also can
the degree pointer from the L18 be mounted on the L16 showing correct
degrees?
Also, in the datsun workshop manual, it shows the pully having numerous
marks (5 degree increments from TDC) and one pointer on the timing block,
where the L18 I have (the parts I wish to transfer to the L16) has one mark
on the wheel, and numerous numbers on the pointer plate. Maybe my engine
doesn't have a TDC!!
Any insight would be very helpful....thanks
chris
