Now they use the barricades from Indy to stop guys using the spit car park
for that sort of activity..
Illegal drags still go on in various places around the coast but the cops
and the dept of transport have clamped down pretty heavily in recent times.
About a few months ago they raided the drags at Earnest and blocked off the
only two exits from the area. This was about 11pm. Estimated about 400 cars
caught in the trap .. The transport dept had all their inspectors and the
"shaker" van in attendance and I believe the last car left the area at about
4am..
The cops got together with some of the local guys and worked out a deal
whereby the guys could get together at the Broadwater carpark (opp Aust Fair
in Southport) - not to drag but to get together and socialise. If u wanted
to drag then u went off somewhere else for that..
Lately however a local area councillor has been campaigning to stop people
congregating in the car park. The stupid woman (Dawn Crichlow) has been
blaming every piece of vandalism and bad behaviour in this area on the car
park guys.. Its a bit unfair because before the car park was used for the
guys with cars it was being extensively used by drug addicts and people with
strange sexual preferences..
It has been successful for the car guys with up to 300 or 400 cars getting
their on a thurs, fri or sat nite..
