I have opted for this system as well. Yes the fuel does heat up, but there
are ways around that..
The main reason people go for returning from the fuel rail to the surge tank
is because the primary fuel pump can't really supply enough fuel to keep the
surge tank full enough with a 50psi efi pump sucking from it and letting the
fuel from the fuel rail return to the main tank.

The best solution for this would be to dice the primary pump for something
with a very high flow capacity, and then you are able to get away with
hooking the fuel rail return to the main tank.

In a nutshell, you gotta keep the surge tank full!! :)
