Scott,
Adelaide Jap are asking $2800 for CA18DET halfcuts. They are 5 speeds
though. If this one is a 5 speed in good nick it would be worth giving him
at least double the money you are talking (not if you don't have to
though... :) ).
You can also convert a CA auto to manual reasonably easily too - the
gearboxes are quite common (if it's an auto).
I agree with Terry - having done conversions both ways, the halfcut is
definitely the way to go. Then you'll get the computer, wiring, AFM, relays
and fusebox, Intercooler and plumbing and if you were to buy the whole wreck
you'd even get the EFI pump! Then it would just be a matter if re-arranging
the bits to fit your car...
You could very easily end up with the cheapest CA18DET conversion ever done!
Even cheaper than Geordies SR conversion! Actually a lot cheaper...

Scott,
The extra $200 could be worth it for all of the bits and pieces that you
would get - a 1/2 cut is by far the best way to go and after having helped a
few ppl do conversions with these I am converted (no pun intended). You just
may get the whole car for $500-$600 as some ppl just can't handle selling to
wreckers as they know they're going to make heaps from it.
