Bruce,
Inspiring set of shots!
How long has it taken from the shell stage?
What are the nice seats out of?
I'm motivated by your approach to the project. Like you, I keep coming back
to 1600's as great project cars, despite previously owning a 1310cc Cooper S
for 6 years and an LJ XU1 for 5 years in the past (plus a couple of 1600's
and 180BSSS's). Datto's are so reliable and rewarding to drive and, also
like you, they appear "timeless" in body design to me. Probably a 72 Alfa
GTV looks better but they are full of hassles if driven a lot.
I have just restored a really clean "one household" '72 1600 Auto (white of
course) which is merely waiting for registration and a place to garage it.
However, last week the house next door came up for sale, so my garage space
will double on settlement in a couple of months. (My wife, Lynn thinks we
bought a bigger garden!)
I can then get stuck into serious work on the 1600SSS. It has been sitting
in my (crowded) garage stripped for 10 months, while 2 unplanned projects
(the 1600 Auto, and a Mazda Capella replacement for one my daughter wrote
off) went through.
