Terry and list.
I discovered that anomaly with the resistor wires and the coil only getting voltage
while cranking
..took a while though....
I would like to be able to statically time the electronic dissy, is this possible?
(static timing - where you put a 12v light across the points in a conventional
distributor to roughly set up the timing).
I'll have to look up details about the alternators.
Are all Datsun starter motors interchangeable?
I used the Stanza starter in my L20 engine with L24 flywheel and it sounded like it
wasn't fully disengaging. I swapped it with an L20 starter and it seems OK.
Can't tell for sure though (car has no exhaust and sounds like a Cessna!)
Be prepared for questions on SU's.....
Thanks again
Nick

List members,
I need to know how to wire in a bluebird distibutor using the Stanza loom.
I have put the ignition wire to coil positive and the ground wire to coil
neg. but what do I do with the resistor and condensor wires that are used in
the conventional distributor loom?
Nick,
You remove both of the wires on the ballast resister and join them
together and insulate them as the constant 12v ignition feed to the coil
comes through them when the ignition switch is in the "On" position. Without
the ballast resistor wires connected, the +ve coil wire only gets 12v with
the ignition key in the "Start" position and and nothing in the "On"
position so if you don't join the resister wires the engine will start and
then die as soon as you disengage the starter. Any other spare wires should
just be well insulated with tape.
I don't understand your question about the condenser wire as there is
only one wire from a condenser that goes to the connector block on a
battery/ign dizzy and the condenser should be still attached to the old
dizzy. As a precaution the Bluebird electronic dizzy should have a separate
earth fitted from one of the mounting bolts at the timing cover if an oil
seal and gasket are used as it is in the L20B engine.
I also would like to know how to wire in an internally regulated
altenator, but this is not as important right now...
In what car? a Stanza already has an internally regulated alternator so
it's just a straight swap over. If it's not for a Stanza (Bosch 14v 40A) let
me know what from and to and what brand both the old and new alternators
are.
Terry
Thanks in advance
Nick
