Guys, I need your help big time!
I was just sat in traffic in my 910 Bluebird on the way home from work and
suddenly the charge light comes on as well as all the warning lights for
washer fluid, door ajar, bulb failure etc. I jumped out and checked
everything is as it should be under the hood and everything looks normal
(i.e. fanbelt etc) I figure on a failed alternator and carry on as it's dark
and raining heavily, there's not much I can do. But it's acting wierd,
possibly overcharging. At idle the charge light glows dimly and gets
brighter as the revs climb. The warning light will all come on and stay on
when you start the engine but if you turn a couple of things on the off
again they all go off. Untill you turn something on again, like the
defogger, lights or heater...then they're back on. As you accelerate the
charge light begins to flash rythmically like a turn signal until about
20mph then it stays on permanent. At 50 it's so bright it's pink! I thought
the bulb would blow!
I can't do much to fix it now as it's dark and raining but wouldn't ya
know... tomorrow I gotta use it to tow a trailer that I've hired to deliver
a car. Hence the plea for ideas on whats up with it. I'm thinking maybe just
a failed alternator/reg causing over charging but could there be a short
somewhere do ya reckon? It seems to be charging the battery okay and the
battery isn't fizzing or boiling up as I'd expect if it's over charging. I
have to fix this thing early AM tomorrow as I have to collect the trailer at
8.30AM!
