Steve,
Rose joints allow low friction movement of parts while being able to
maintain close length tolerances. There are many grades of rose joints from
basic low load joints with no internal lubrication, up to aircraft grade
sealed self lubricating high shock load joints. The low load joints are
cheap $15 for a 1/2" female up to $135 a joint for the same size in an
aircraft grade joint.
If used in suspension arms etc always err on the side of caution and buy a
better grade of joint. (you buy safety helmets dont you?). Dust and mud are
the biggest enemy of rose joints. Tp protect them the joints can be covered
in grease externally and then wrapped over with hessian tape. The tape is
then lightly wired over the joint and hot bitumen poured over that to seal
them up.
The fitting of rose joints is a definite plus to reduce suspension flex and
make steering much more precise. As with all good things it costs.
Cheers
Feral Errol
